Meet Michael Lundon
Michael is one of the city’s most successful amateur footballers after many years playing Saturday and Sunday and winning every trophy there is to win, multiple times.
Being part of a true football family, there was never a doubt that he would turn into a local football legend. Michael played for many teams but there were two clubs where he spent most of his footballing years... Waterloo Dock and The Seymour. These clubs meant the world to Michael and he meant the world to everyone involved in both clubs.
Michael was a centre half for the majority of his career and was one of the very best in the city. He had energy to burn, could head the ball like no other and loved a tackle. Friend or foe, if you were on the opposite side to Michael, you knew you were in for a tough game.
Michael was another great leader. He led by example and always drove his team to win. He was the first person to back up his team mates if it got a bit tasty but if you didn't put in the effort during the game, he would be the first to tell you, in no uncertain terms. He was a born winner and that showed in everything he did.
Michael spent years playing alongside his brother James and what a duo they were. James was also an outstanding footballer and the life and soul of every team he played in. They both represented the County and experienced great success together. They backed each other in every situation and it was always clear how much love they have for each other. That being said, their dad, Jimmy, could still be the best footballer in the family. But we will leave that argument for another day. :-)
In 2018 Michael was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and has been battling the affects ever since. Michael is supported by an amazing family and group of friends and what they have done during the past 5 years in incredible.
It is also amazing to see the support Michael and his family receive from the footballing community and Michael's wider group of friends. People have organised many events to pay tribute to Michael and support him and his family in their fight against this debilitating disease. This means the world to Michael, Vicky and the kids.
This football tournament is a great opportunity to get everyone together, play the game Michael loves and make sure he knows he is surrounded by people who will support him while he continues his fight.
Michael is an inspiration to everyone who knows him and we can’t wait to show our support, once again, on 15th July at the Lundon Williams Trophy.
